17 March

I’m in Dublin since the 3th of February. During this two months I’ve lived a lot of new experiences.
Sometimes, at the first week, I had the impression people like if people were joking when they spoke in English. Sometimes I thought: “Well, stop speaking English!! Now it’s time to speak Spanish!”. Of course I knew people wasn’t able to do that, but sometimes it was my feeling.

I remember one of the firts days, I was with Laura in a bookshop and the dependent was Spanish. I spoke a few words in Spanish with the girl and suddenly I turned my head to Laura and I started to speak to her in Spanish. Laura said to me: “What are you doing? I can’t understand anything!”. It was so funny. Now I don’t have that feeling any more.

Dublin and I think all Irish territory has a strange weather. We never know if tomorrow will rain, will be sunny or windy. Like Irish people say: “In one day we live the four seasons”. And that’s truth. Last two weeks were really crazy and sometimes, when I arrived at home on the afternoon I had headache, because of the odd weather.

Since I decided go back to Alicante for three months in order to finish my final project degree, days in Dublin are worse than the first month. Things have changed: during the first month Elly, Laura and me, we were always together. But now Elly has gone back to Corea and Laura and me… we realized that we are quite different. We still seeing each other, but it’s not the same. However, we met other people and that was good, because Elly, Laura and I, we were so close during that month and I think we needed to meet other people.

Dublin is great, but the weather and the fact that everything is really more expensive than in Spain, drives me think about if this is the best place to learn English. Now I realized the importance of the sun in my life or, at least, the importance of a stable weather.

Despite all this, I think I’ll come back to Dublin again in July. Well… I’m sure. I don’t think it’s good idea going to the EUA to learn English. Maybe the weather is better, but it’s really so far from our home. So I think I have to get used to this weather.

In two weeks, I’ll be in Alacant (again). But not for a long time.

Incoherences on the Spanish election system

•Març 5, 2008 • Feu un comentari

I’ve been looking at the tables about previous elections in Spain, concretly in Alicante.

PP and PSOE always get all the senators. The other politic parties, despite having near the 6% of the votes, they never get any senator. Well, so it’s really normal that people prefer to vote to PP or PSOE, because their votes will be… “useful”. Rules have to change, there is no real justification to ignore sixty thousand people (this is only in Alicante).

Yesterday I read something interesting. Rosa Díez, a woman who was about to be the PSOE’s general secretary a few years ago, has now her own politic partie. I do not like her ideas, cause she wants to eliminate the actual autonomies system. Yesterday she was asked in ELMUNDO about the actual election system. She explained an interesting point of view: she thinks in a model where there are no demarcations or where demarcations are bigger than now (not provinces but comunities).

I think if we have three kind of elections (national, comunities and local), there is no sense when in the national elections they are considering provinces. Who really loose is Izquierda Unida. For that reason it’s important to know we have to change this non-equality system.

Why my vote have to be thrown up?.

El cel és el mateix

Avui tornava per un carrer més o menys obscur a la meua “hosthouse”. He mirat el cel… i he vist la Lluna… he vist Orion.

El cel és el mateix ací en Dublín que a Alacant.

Qui ho diria?

Here is a video. I like it, it’s strange but the music-photo combination make it a beautiful effect.

Such a nice city!

After one week in Dublin I have to say: I like it!.

It’s more or less like Barcelona, maybe a little poorer, but people are nice and with my new two friends it’s so funny to wonder around the streets. The Dublin’s main streets are O’Connor St. and Grafton St., everyday we have to pass through, there are a lot of people.

Yesterday we went to see the sea. In order to do that, we had to get the train to Howl (or something like this). I really like these kind of trips by train because it allows me to see Dublin by other points of views.

Howl were a really beautiful place. I saw there the firsts mountains in Ireland (in the city there are no mountains). We walked next to the sea and then we started to walk up the mountain. If I can, tonight I will attach a photo.

Well… That’s all. I have to say… I feel homesick…

Firts days in Dublin

Well… I arrived at the Dublin Airport last Sunday at 6pm. I got a taxi to go to my family house, there was no problem to find it because there is a taxi parade in the airport, like in Barcelona.

The taxistman didn’t know what was exactly the addres where I had to go. He started the way and when he was ‘lost’, he stop the parkimeter and told to me that I had to pay 17 euros. Then we continued the way in order to find the house.

My family is OK. I live with a retired couple and their dougther (she is 32, and a little ’slow’). This morning I discovered that there is other girl in the house, but she is Irish and it seems she works in the city.

I had no time to take any photo, but I want to take… I have no time to do anything in internet because I go with other people and it’s necessary be with them… in order to make friends.

Well, I hope I can express better my feelings and my experiences during the next weeks.

Little Red Riding Hood

Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived near to a big forest in the south of France. She lived there with her mother who works hard everyday.

Her name was Manola, but people refer usually to her as “Little Red Riding Hood” because she always wear a pink riding hood (yes, “pink”). At those days, Manola’s Grandmother were living in the exactly centre of the forest and she was ill.

One day, Loli (Manola’s mother) requested Manola go to take a basket of food to the Gradmother. First, Manola disappeared immediately, but Loli found her and she forced Manola go out and take the basket to the grandma.

The poor lady started walk through the forest. Sometimes she stopped to see the birds or smell the flowers. Suddenly she heard something what were moving near to her.  She looked into the vegetation, but she didn’t find anything. Finally she gave in and she continued her way.

Few seconds after, a wolf appeared in front of she. The wolf approached and asked to her: “Where are you going?”. Manola was scared because people said that there were a wolf in the forest who ate children and grandmothers. But Manola looked the wolf and she thought he didn’t look like a bad wolf: not at all.

Wolf looked hungry and she offered a peace of bread she had in the basket. Wolf thanked for it and disappeared. When Caperucita arrived to her Grandmother’s house, she didn’t hear anything. She opened the door taking care of the sounds and look into the house. There were nobody.

But there was a note in the table:

“Dear Manola and Loli, I’ve met a rich man in the casino. He has offered me to go on a trip around the world. I’m going. Don’t worry about me. Kisses. Grandma.”

Manola just thought were her grandma should had the money.

Linus Torvalds

Linus Torvalds is really one of the more famous persons when we talk about informatics. He is the owner of the “Linux Kernel”, an operating system that is free (not like “free beer”, most likely “freedom”).

Linus was born in Helsinki (Finland) on 28th December 1969. Its parents chose that name in honour to Linus Pauling, who won a Nobel prize. He hadn’t any brother or sister and has lived in Helsinki all his life. His family were part of the Swedish-speaking minority of Finland’s population.

He was a normal child in a cold country and there weren’t special events before he started his degree in computer science. During the studies, he begun to write a minimal operating system based on “minix” (other OS). Some people were interested in his project and linux finally published the code in 1991.

That was the beginning of an important movement what was called “Free Software”. Programmers started to share the code and propose enhancements and bug fixes and now is one of the most secure OS which is used in most of internet servers.

Two years later he met Tove -a six-time Finnish national Karate champion- who become his wife some years later. They had three daughters: Patricia, Daniela and Celeste.

Torvalds worked for Transmeta between 1997 and 2003. Then he moved to the Open Source Development Labs which become in just a short time the Linux Foundation, where he still working.

Linus is a famous person because he created the kernel of an free operating system. It’s important to know that the philosophy of free software is not from Linus but from Richard Stallman (but this is another history)…

Six feet under

•Octubre 6, 2007 • Feu un comentari

Today Neus and me have finished the last season of Six feet under. Two months ago, Neus come here in Alicante after seven years in Barcelona. I bought two seasons of Six feet under for Neus, at that moment I thought some entertainment was a good thing for she.

We have seen all seasons in original English version subtitled in Spanish. Words more used were “Shit” and “Shock” (or something similar).

Two Neus’s friends told us this tvserie has been the best of all series that they have never seen. They commented that the last episode were very special and today Neus and me are agree with they.

If you can see Two feet under… I recommend it…
